About

My name is Rob, and I came up with the concept of Chough Knives during the early part of 2020 and the first covid lockdown. I have consistently been obsessed with making things and during my time at university I discovered green woodworking and spoon carving. This opened a whole world of making, the community and taught me a lot about the form and function of everyday objects, it also gave me the confidence to create things that were both functional and pleasing to the eye.

Forging my own knives was always on my mind but by the time I graduated university in 2018 with a masters in geology making had slipped to the back of my mind. However, during the first national lockdown I had a short period of time with no pressure and nothing to do, that’s when knife making came back into view. I invested in some basic tools and Chough Knives (pronounced ‘chuff’ – Cornwall’s county bird) was created. I make kitchen knives specifically because I love cooking, but I also love the idea that a kitchen knife is the only knife that most people use daily, they are accessible to everyone!

I don’t currently take commissions, everything I make is available when I get a chance to finish it, this gives me great opportunity to experiment and as a new maker I’m still really enjoying learning this craft. But to everyone who buys some of my work know that I appreciate it immensely and I cannot thank you enough.

Cheers,

Rob
